Living at Hopton

Here at Hopton Cottage Care Home we have a motto:

Our residents do not live in our workplace, we work in their homes.

We pride ourselves in providing first-class service for your Mum while she makes herself at home in a luxury purpose-built environment.

We have 3 seperate & homely neighbourhoods where our residents get to know each other. Our unique design has been mad on 20 years of experience in looking after older people.

Woodend Cottages houses 18 residents & is exclusively for people with no mental health needs. She will feel at home here as all her care needs are taken care of.
Riverside Cottages is home to 20 people with early stage dementia or mild confusion. If your Mum gets a little muddled at times but loves a good chat then she can live happily here.
Greenway Cottages is specifically for people with dementia that has specially trained staff on hand 24 hours a day. Here we look after people with a formal dementia diagnosis.

Why are there 3 neighbourhoods at Hopton Cottage?

It’s wrong to assume that older people living in a care home all fall into one group with the same needs. Older people often need help for extremely different reasons.

If your Mum is maybe a bit frail but still mentally alert then she may not wish to be living around people with dementia. That’s a situation that could easily become very confusing & distressing for her.

In 20 years of looking after older people this has been one of the complaints I’ve encountered the most. When care homes house all their residents together, each individual resident just doesn’t get care tailored to their exact needs.

So at Hopton we have 3 distinct areas or neighbourhoods:

In Woodend residents are mentally alert but may be a bit frail or have other health needs.

In Riverside we take care of residents who experience some memory problems or early stage dementia. These folks are generally aware of who they are & where they are but may get a bit mixed up at times.

It doesn’t matter if they ever make ‘mistakes’ nor will they live with people who demonstrate more advanced stages of dementia.

In Greenway every resident has a formal diagnosis of dementia. Our residents range from moderate to more advanced stages of dementia.

We are not a ‘Challenging Behaviour Unit’ but we do look after people who may at times present some challenging or what might be considered ‘unusual’ behaviour.

We have more advanced training for our staff at Greenway. As well as increased staffing levels at key times.

The manager & deputy manager both specialise in dementia.

Our home is very spacious & based entirely on the ground floor. There are large 20m² bedroom suites with beautiful ensuites. Featuring:

  • Standing or sit down showers to meet Mum’s needs
  • Comfort height toilets & basins with arthritis friendly taps
Mum will have her own patio garden to enjoy with friends or family. We have an annual garden competition – our very own Hopton Flower Show!
“I always feel very welcome & I am very comfortable when visiting mum in her new home. Her room is bright, spacious, well kept & the laundry service is excellent.” – Kathryn P

Quality of Accomadation

Our cottage suites will enable Mum to live in great comfort and luxury within a lovely safe community of like-minded people. Lovely supportive care-staff are on hand 24 hours a day to help Mum keep her independence and dignity in her later years.
Our rooms have small double beds to ensure your Mum’s comfort. With oak furniture throughout & of course the option to personalise Mum’s room as much as she likes.
Our maintenance team will keep her room warm, well-lit & address any issues she has straight away.

Our lounges are spacious yet homely and there are several other sitting areas for Mum to relax in.

There is lots of space throughout the building to wander about freely & stretch her legs throughout the winter months.

The whole building is filled by natural light & complimented the highest quality fixtures & fittings.

WiFi is available in all our lounges & Mum has the option to have her own internet connection & personal phone fitted.

Full digital TVs with DVD Players are provided in each room. With all the sports & any other pay channels she wishes.

Independent Life

Our residents live happily & enjoy independence in their cottage. They have care support on hand whenever they need it.

She can relax while we take care of all her cooking, medication, cleaning & laundry.

Mum will be free to spend time doing things she enjoys.

This works very well for people who feel their independence is important but for whom home-based care packages are no longer effective.

Residents here maintain their self-esteem & their identity which helps keep their spirits up!
We’ve put a lot of thought into designing the perfect care home to meet the individual needs of your Mum. As far as I know Hopton is unique in this respect. So if you value more specialised care for your Mum then do consider us.
Our “Home for Life” guarantee means that when your Mum comes to live with us – That’s it. She stays living with us. If your funds for her ever run out, we’ll continue to look after your Mum & reduce her fees so that her remaining time here will be funded by Kirklees Council.
Look out for my email again in 2 days where I explain how getting your Mum into care earlier often means she’s able get a place in the very best care home instead of having to settle for a more basic local option. I’ll also explain why waiting until the last minute can be seriously detrimental to your Mum’s health.
Remember you can always call us with any questions or concerns about your Mum. The best number to call is: 01924 50 40 71
P.S. If you’ve already booked a place for your Mum Fabulous Fridays then we’ll see you soon!
